Product Name Product Definition Product Units Spatial Resolution Temporal Resolution Coverage Area Product Format Period of Product Availability*
Horizontal Surface Insolation (Solar Cooking) Amount of electromagnetic energy (solar radiation) incident on the surface of the earth. Also referred to as total or global solar radiation. kWh/m2/day 1° longitude by 1° latitude Monthly Average Global ASCII July 1983-June 1993
Monthly Horizontal Diffuse Radiation Amount of electromagnetic energy (solar radiation) incident on the surface of the earth under all-sky conditions with direct radiation from the Sun's beam blocked by a shadow band or tracking disk at the Earth's surface. kWh/m2/day 1° longitude by 1° latitude Monthly Average Global ASCII July 1983-June 1993
Monthly Solar Beam Direct Normal Radiation Amount of electromagnetic energy (solar radiation) at the Earth's surface on a flat surface perpendicular to the Sun's beam with surrounding sky radiation blocked. kWh/m2/day 1° longitude by 1° latitude Monthly Average Global ASCII July 1983-June 1993
Monthly Tilted Surface Radiation Three methods of calculating radiation on tilted surfaces are given. Tilt angles are 0, latitude - 15, latitude, latitude + 15, 90, and the optimum angle. The optimum angle provides the monthly averaged maximum radiation. kWh/m2/day 1° longitude by 1° latitude Monthly Average Global ASCII July 1983-June 1993
Wind Vector The average and percent difference minimum and maximum are given. Percent of time for ranges of wind speed at 50 m (percent) Percentage [frequency] of time that wind speed is in each range (0-2, 3-6, 7-10, 11-14, 15-18, 19-25 m/s). m/s and degrees 1° longitude by 1° latitude/10 m and 50 m altitude Monthly average, Percentages at certain speeds, time of day average Global ASCII July 1983-June 1993
Near-Surface Air Temperature N/A C 1° longitude by 1° latitude/ near-surface and earth skin Monthly average, min and max Global ASCII July 1983-June 1993
Surface Air Pressure N/A kPa 1° longitude by 1° latitude Monthly average Global ASCII July 1983-June 1993
Relative Humidity Ratio of actual partial press of water vapor to the partial pressure at saturation, expressed in percent. percent, kg/kg 1° longitude by 1° latitude Monthly average Global ASCII July 1983-June 1993
Precipitation N/A mm/day 1° longitude by 1° latitude Monthly average Global ASCII July 1983-June 1993
Dew point N/A C 1° longitude by 1° latitude Monthly average Global ASCII July 1983-June 1993
Total Percipitable Water Amount of moisture in the air from 310 to 1000 mb cm 1° longitude by 1° latitude Monthly average Global ASCII July 1983- June 1993
* The SSE Project Team plans on carrying out these calculations beyond 1993
